My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. Where can I go and meet with God?
(Ps. 42:2)
Thirst... or desire, what is the root of this creature, this force that drives men to live in sometimes the most unusual of ways? (This is me acting and writing like i want to be intellectual, but i hate this style of writing and talk, its revolting.) Still others seem not to desire anything and say they are completely satisfied. Yet these men seem to be the ones always complaining about anything, tearing down and destroying anything they see, a most unusual response from a man who says he is satisfied. Desire may be thought of as a good or a bad thing, depending on what one desires of course. Men have desired power or fame, still others a life of humility and service. Still both sets of men seem rarely to arrive at a place in which they say they have realized their desires. Desire seems to be a vehicle for change that God has appropriated to mans soul. If you see farther or dream bigger, you can have the benefits of realizing a goal you now do not have. This is the essence of hope. The expectation of things yet unrealized. And it is quite easy to see why they're are many sick men in this world, for hope deferred makes the heart sick. Why? Well many men have pursued things that are mere allusions, not really the desire of their heart. Man is set on trying to find rest for his soul, and as mentioned before, they pursue many different ways of life to try to attain this. Here we must realize that God has set eternity in the hearts of man. Nothing in this life will ever satisfy. Simple enough, yet men seem to continue in their vain attempts to live life to find something in this life to fulfill them. Why? They are blind, and really aren't their own man at all, but rather a slave, and a slave to depravity and to foolishness. They are enslaved to their desires and passions that are in the world through sin. Satan is their master and many walk this road. Sadly some say they are satisfied here, being a slave to everything evil. They actually enjoy on some level the perversity of evil taking from their soul and leaving it more empty so that more lust may find its way into them. This substitute for passion, lust, is often confused by even the noblest of men. This is the paradox of a man who has truly found life. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. He is eternal, able to fill the most enormous gap of eternity that has been set in the hearts of man. Of course this is only realized if he comes to indwell you. For many a man knows about Jesus, but does not have him living in him, fulfilling his heart. Then of course, still there is the man who has Jesus but has simply forgotten. The apostle Peter says these men have forgotten they have been cleansed for past sin, so they continue in the pattern of the world, despite the fact they have been redeemed. They have been bought back from under the power of the evil one and his allusions of lust that rape a man, and then leave him in his shame very empty. They result is death, evil pervading every part of man, his spirit, soul, mind, and body. He feels unlovable, for he is receiving from evil rather than from good. He feels shame, longs for acceptance, yet for no apparent reason. The apostle Paul warned us by the Holy Spirit that our battle in this life is not against flesh and blood. But again I must return to the beauty of Christ Jesus in me the hope of Glory. With Jesus, hope is a sure thing, it is the constant expectation of the perfect good of God, that you are fully assured you will receive or inherit one day. Here in lies the basis for faith. If it is mine, and I will receive it in the future at some point, why can't it be manifest now if it belongs to me? Does not a man have right to his own belongings? So as Jesus taught us to pray, Father let your kingdom come and your will be done, NOW as it is in heaven. Since we have been made co-heirs with Christ, all that belongs to Jesus and the Father belongs to us! Our desires now become his desires, because we died and our life is now hid in him and he lives in us. (For we are a slave to either righteousness or depravity) Here is why for the Christian, they must renew their mind. Stop believing the illusions of this world and of evil. This can only come through relationship with God, not being saved and then religion, or following the law, which gave a man nothing, only made him aware of his lusts and ungodly passions in his flesh. Here we see why so many in Christ are following the way of the world. They have begun with the Spirit but left him for the law or were deceived after a time that the worries and pleasures of this life were more important, the word of God placed in their lives gets choked out. This is the freedom of a son of God. They can be completely satisfied, being filled with the Spirit (the eternal Spirit of God) yet still desire, being now indwelt by Christ himself who lives his life through them. Christ's passions are now their passions as well as Christ eternal delight and joy in being in perfect relationship with the Father. This is the beauty of being accepted by grace and not by works. For no man could ever achieve God indwelling him or the righteousness required to have this event happen. So we accept it, we do nothing at all. Here we find we are presented before God without a spot and free from accusation of ANY wrongdoing. We are blameless. The man who is convince of this will life a wholly different life than the man of the world obviously, but also wholly different than the man who is still unconvinced of what Christ did for him on the cross. This man will be still laboring and striving, for something he cannot achieve. Living by law, not by the Spirit of Christ. So they will still be under the lusts and passions of this world, since they are not accepting Christ. As Paul, said, "Who has bewitched you?" or convinced you to live without Christ again. You are deceived. But blessed is the man who is poor in spirit (who knows he can't do it) for his is the kingdom of heaven (all of it!) Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness (not on their own, because they can't but by the indwelling of the spirit of God who owns them and their desires) they will be filled! Be filled with the Spirit! Well that is enough to my theological musing. Have a good day Ben
